Sony Trans Com approached Cooper to help develop their next-generation in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, P@ssport. The goal of the system was to provide each passenger with an individualized display to access movies, music, games and other computer-based services. Given the wide variety of passengers, Sony Trans Com needed to provide a very approachable experience that minimized navigation through menus and screens. Sony also needed to simplify their flight staff interface to allow airline staff to effectively manage, control, and maintain the system in flight and on the ground. They turned to Cooper for help.

To meet the goals of a wide range of passengers, Cooper redesigned P@ssport with a simple, physical interface that lets users quickly view and make selections.
To help deliver a system that was both easy to use and easy to maintain, Cooper worked closely with Sony Trans Com's product team to design a complete solution with three specific interfaces:
- A touchscreen passenger interface featuring a credit card slot, datawheel selection mechanism, and tethered game controller
- A flight attendant interface for in-flight customer service via an interactive seat map
- A maintenance interface for system diagnostics and content updates
Cooper's field research indicated that while a single interface was suitable for passengers, two additional interfaces were necessary for airline flight attendants and on-ground maintenance personnel.
Cooper's intuitive passenger interface made selecting a movie, audio program, or game as easy as using a radio knob. Cooper's non-hierarchical design means that content is only a touch away. Rich on-screen information about the content lets passengers make informed viewing decisions.
Cooper's redesigned passenger interface means fewer questions and problems for airline flight attendants. Powerful features in the flight attendant interface allow attendants to focus on customer service, not technology. An intuitive maintenance interface ensures easy content updates and servicing by ground personnel.

Sony Trans Com's launch of the P@ssport IFE system, incorporating Cooper's unique and powerful passenger and personnel interfaces, was recognized by their President as the most successful product launch in Sony Trans Com's history.
